Collection: Senatore Cappelli

The forerunner to modern durum wheat, “Senatore Cappelli” is an autumnal cultivar that was created by agronomist Nazareno Strampelli in 1915 by crossing native Southern Italian durum wheat with other wheat from Mediterranean countries.
It was given this name in honour of Abruzzo marquis Raffaele Cappelli, who allowed Strampelli to carry out some seeding trials in the fields he owned.

Cappelli wheat, particularly versatile and rustic and of the utmost quality, is still grown in Southern Italy.
Its fine semolina, suitable for making pasta, can be used to produce gourmet pasta with a traditional flavour.
